> We are now about two thirds of the way through our season, so time for Bulletin 2.
>
> Since the end of May we have completed another five fixtures:
>
> Woolton 4 Wirral Golf 4
> Wirral Golf 5. Prenton. 5
> Bidston. 8. Wirral Golf 2
> Wirral Golf. 5/12. Bidston 41/2
Woolton 6. Wirral Golf 2
>
> This means that, in overall terms, so far this season we have won 2, lost 7, and drawn 2.
> Six fixtures remain with other clubs, remembering of course that the final match of the season, against Rhuddlan, has been cancelled.
>
> Please don’t forget the Newton Friendship Cup, which is in the afternoon of Wednesday September 13. Also, don’t forget that the Seniors AGM is in the evening after the post-match meal. It would be excellent to get a good turnout for that event, as it is important to get as broad a cross section of views as possible on how we should operate the Seniors Matches. I plan to send out an agenda for the AGM, plus invitations for discussion points, a week or so before the meeting.

> We still have some issues to resolve. One of those relates to the number of players we field in a match. You may have noticed that the upcoming West Derby match has been reduced to 16 players, which was at their request. Maybe 16 players should become the norm? It would certainly take the pressure off the Organiser to some extent, given that we often struggle to find 20 players for matches. We have had our fixture list reduced to 9 home and away matches from 11. Is this about right or should we be aiming to bring it back up to 11? Brackenwood have expressed an interest in a fixture with us.
>
> In addition, we are still experiencing some instances of last minute withdrawals and last minute cancellations of meals. I covered these areas in my last bulletin so I won’t bang on again, except to say that we will be bringing in a rule that when a meal is cancelled within three days of the match, ( for example if the match is on a Thursday then the cancellation must be made by close of play on the Monday) the individual cancelling will be required to pay for it. Please note that if it should become necessary to cancel a meal, then it should be done through the Organiser rather than via kitchen or cleaning staff.
>
> Finally, may I welcome back (again) our Organiser Gerry Nolan from the clutches of the NHS. Thanks again to Dave Byrom for stepping into Gerry’s shoes.
>
> Enjoy your golf.

> Seniors Captain 2017Men’s Seniors Section
The Men’s Seniors section of Wirral Golf Club is open to any full playing gents member who is aged 55 or over during the course of the year.
We start our season with the Founders Trophy, a domestic competition, on April 5th. This is an individual stableford contest, and we are grateful to Chris Robins, who presented the trophy in 2013 to mark the completion of 21 years existence of the Men’s Seniors Section within Wirral Ladies Golf Club. The competition is open to any member who has represented the seniors team in the past.
Previous winners of the trophy have been
2017 – M Kay
2016 – G Marley
2015 – E Brown
2014 – G Marley
2013 – G Marley
Late in the season, September 13th we play for the Newtown Friendship Cup, also individual stableford format and open to players who have represented the senior team during the 2017 season. Afterwards there is a meal followed by the AGM for the Seniors Section.
Previous Winners
2016 – Frank Gallagher
2015 – P White
2014 – D Spencer
2013 – P White
2012 – E Brown
2011 – M Woolf
In between these dates we play team matches against seniors from other clubs in the area on both home and away basis. These are 4 ball better ball matches and are followed by a meal. Although competitive affairs, the emphasis is that the events should be sociable.
The fixture list for 2017 is laid out below. In order to participate, you need to enter your name and handicap on the Match List when it appears on the notice board in the gents locker room 3 weeks before the match. Team selection is on a first-come-first-served basis.
We look forward to welcoming you along.
